My daughter, Aubrey, and I watched the movie "I am Sam" yesterday. You know the one with Sean Penn? If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend watching it. Oh my word! I forgot how much that movie makes me cry. I won't share too many spoilers; but one thing really stood out when I watched it this time. Sam didn't question who he was. He wasn't "normal" according to society's standards, but that didn't hinder him from fulfilling his responsibilities as a father. Their perception didn't keep him from having compassion towards every person he came in contact with. As a matter of fact, he didn't really seem to acknowledge that he had a disability at all.
